Gothic Horror
Book Set
Frankenstein, Dracula,
and The Picture of Dorian Gray
This collection features classic gothic horror novels—The Picture of Dorian Gray, Dracula, and Frankenstein—and includes a slipcase.
This was created for “Frogmouth Publishing” a fictional Australian publishing company I made for this project. You can see the combination mark that I designed for them here.
Each book cover has been designed to reflect the essence of its narrative while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic across the series.
Using Photoshop, I transformed public-domain paintings into a representation of a key character from each story.
For Dracula, I aimed to capture Count Dracula as described by Jonathan Harker. The use of reddish-black shadows gives him a menacing appearance, emphasizing his role as the villain of the story.
I also wanted to depict a more book-accurate Dorian Gray from The Picture of Dorian Gray, featuring his golden hair and blue eyes. A blood splatter references the murder he committed, suggesting that beneath his youthful and beautiful exterior lies a darker reality.
For Frankenstein, the creature's body appears yellow and bruised, with blood-stained arms that signify his dark actions. The close-up of the naked form highlights his vulnerability, contrasting his monstrous actions with the humanity that exists within him.
